TECHNICAL STANDARD
ISO 11126-7
Preparation of steel substrates before application of paints and related products — Specifications for non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasives — Part 7: Fused aluminium oxide
ISO
Edition 2 / 2018
Current
WHAT DOES THIS STANDARD COVER?
Specifies requirements for fused aluminium oxide supplied as a non-metallic abrasive for blast-cleaning.
WHY IS IT RELEVANT?
Relevant where fused aluminium oxide is specified and abrasive characteristics require verification as part of surface-preparation quality control. Requirements relate to abrasive supplied in the new condition.
KEY INSPECTION CONSIDERATIONS
The standard addresses requirements for fused aluminium oxide supplied as a new non-metallic blast-cleaning abrasive. Abrasive characteristics can influence blasting behaviour and the surface produced. Selection should be considered in relation to the surface preparation process, substrate and coating-system requirements.
WHAT THE STANDARD SHOULD NOT BE USED TO ASSUME
Compliance of the abrasive with its specification does not itself demonstrate achievement of the required visual surface cleanliness or surface profile. Requirements for new abrasive should not automatically be assumed to describe abrasive condition after contamination, storage or use.
PRACTICAL INSPECTION APPLICATION
Inspectors can verify the specified abrasive type and available supporting documentation and consider its storage and handling condition. The prepared substrate should then be inspected separately against the applicable visual cleanliness, surface profile and contamination requirements.
