Historical case study, 2017. Paint Inspection Ltd completed a coating condition survey of the Low Head Pipeline at Dolgarrog Power Station in Conwy for Innogy RWE Group.
THE PROJECT
The inspected section measured 600 m in length and 1.2 m in diameter. Its confined and substantially inclined geometry required a controlled approach to access, inspection and rescue provision.
OUR INVOLVEMENT
A five-person rope-access and confined-space team managed access and egress, rescue cover and internal inspection. The work included cleaning followed by visual assessment of the existing coating condition.
TECHNICAL APPROACH
Visual assessment of coating degradation and corrosion was carried out in accordance with ISO 4628. Adhesion and dry film thickness checks supplemented the visual findings. Information from 90 pipe sections was compiled into the project report.
